About the weblog ”Iranistik & Orientalistik”:
I started this blog only a few months ago. It was part of my effort to launch myself as a professional translator, and to write about issues that pertain to Iran, The Middle East, and Central Asia. I know several languages but I specialize primarily in Mid East languages. The samples that I have published in this weblog are translations into Swedish, which is my mother toungue.
What I have found in my young career as a translator and proof reader is that most translations into English from the languages I specialize in are made in poor English. This then, has given me the courage to launch myself as a translator into English as well. The languages I translate from are:
Persian (a language that I have known for more than 10 years now)
Tajik (a variety of Persian, written in the Cyrillic alphabet, and spoken in Tajikistan)
Dari (a variety of Persian that is used in Afghanistan besides Pashto)
Azerbaijani (a Turkic language, spoken by a large minority in Iran, and also the official language of the Republic of Azerbaijan)
Turkish (I have learned this language through Azerbaijani which is closely related)
Arabic (I have been studying this language on and off for about 10 years, and more intensely over the last 5 years. I have good knowledge of Modern Standard Arabic and several colloquial dialects. I also know how to read the ”chat language” of several dialects)
French (which I learned at school in my childhood years)
Norwegian (I have studied this at the University of Gothenburg)
Danish (I have studied this at the University of Gothenburg)
English (I am an educated English Teacher)
Uzbek (To my knowledge, I am the only translator in Scandinavia to translate directly from Uzbek.
Sorani (Southern Kurdish)
